Prop Walls at Lowlands Project Space

“Prop Walls” is a large-scale, wood-cut project, inspired by plywood, and its abundance throughout the urban landscape. This work was printed at the Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists, as part of the larger body of work, “Carving Room”, which is supported by Arts Nova Scotia.

“Prop Walls” uses word and symbol to prod at the role that media plays in shaping ideology surrounding land. Print media has always informed the function of public space. These images aim to re-imagine the voice of mass media, as one more playful.

This project was made in collaboration with Lowlands curator Steven Teeuwsen. Its purpose is to contemplate space, consider what spaces say, and what materials we use to construct them, physically and otherwise.  The intention of the “Prop Wall” project is to gather community, and consider the role of public spaces. “Prop Walls” invites us to at look the minute and the macro.
